These classes are all about capturing a lovely moment in time wherever you happen to be. Observation and creation, a meditative, zen-style of art and art which is just for you! While sketching, the world slows down around you. You'll be surprised to find inspiration in iconic and everyday scenes as you paint from life...not photos!
We will meet at a variety of locations, during the summer months, inside is best! We can paint something as simple as a cup of coffee, a potted plant or something bigger such as a desert scene with mountains, cactus and palm trees. Whatever is around us is what we will paint!
I'll explain design, composition, perspective, how to draw with a permanent ink pen, how to layer colors and mix paint and so much more!
No experience needed! Complete beginners and people who've never painted are completely welcome!
Small group classes for up to 6 students.
I'll introduce you to a relaxed, easy-to-learn-style of drawing and painting using small, travel-sized watercolor painting kits. You'll gain skills that you can take on your own vacations or everyday life. This is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in a beautiful environment and have a truly wonderful day!
Classes meet from 10:00am-1:00pm
Supply list:
Leadholder with 2B lead
Staedtler white plastic eraser
Pens; Permanent ink pen, it's important that you use permanent, waterproof ink. I use De Atramentis Document Ink or Archival Ink in black. You can use a Micron pen size .05 or a refillable pen with an "F" or Fine nib and a Posca 7mm bullet tip white acrylic pen. I use a TWSBI Diamond 580 as well as Fude de Mannon with a 45 degree nib. If you choose to purchase the Fude pen, you'll need to get the ink converter and fill it with the De Atramentis ink. The ink that comes with that pen is not permanent.
Brushes; Silverbrush Black Velvet Voyage Round #6, Belle Aqua Travel Dagger 1/4" size
Paper; A Sketchbook, the size is up to you, 3" x 5" up to 9" x 12" is recommended. Rembrandt sketchbooks, Stillman and Birn Beta series and Arches cold pressed sketchbooks, Etchr and Hahnemule are all good choices! It's important to have good quality paper for the best painting experience and results!
Water cup; Collapsible silicone water cups are best but any unbreakable cup is fine I often use a Faber-Castell Click-and-Go silicone water cup.
Palette, There are a lot of good travel palettes, some empty and some filled with paint. I prefer to make my own. I fill an empty travel palette filled with the following Rembrandt tube colors.
1.) Permanent yellow lemon or Cadmium lemon
2.) Azo yellow deep or Pyrole orange
3.) Yellow ochre
4.) Transparent oxide red or Burnt sienna
5.) Permanent red deep
6.) Quinacridone rose
7.) Quinacridone purple bluish or Mauve
8.) Ultramarine blue deep
9.) Cobalt blue
10.) Pthalo blue cerulean
11.) Pthalo green
12.) Hookers Green deep
