Working on commissions with collectors is so much fun. I developed a unique style of watercolor painting on my own. I enjoy creating paintings with pets in colorful, beautifully designed, colorful rooms or garden settings. These are not your standard pet portrait but a very unique work of art which is customizable in many ways. You can include multiple pets as well as items that are meaningful to you that I will find space for in the interior setting.
I share each step of the process so the collector has the chance to comment. I paint with small strokes and I layer them slowly to build the colors. I also leave small specks of white on purpose. This adds sparkle and keeps it light and fresh. I describe it as a blend of realism and Impressionism. I always paint the pet first and then key the rest of the room colors to the pet.
If you are interested in a commission, email me at KristenPaints@gmail.com or message me here on my website with a photo or photos of your pet as well as any ideas you might have about what sort of room setting you’d like.
I’ll reply with some photo collages of your pet in several different rooms. You’ll be able to pick the one you like best and then I can further personalize the painting by adding family heirlooms to the room such as a an heirloom vase or your University flag or anything that you can think of. Some rooms have paintings on the walls and you can request something special in one of those as well such as a scene of your favorite beach or vacation spot.
I paint with only the best available materials including De Atramentis Archival ink, Rembrandt professional watercolor paints and 100% cotton, 300gsm watercolor paper. I use 2 brands, Fabriano Artistico Italian made paper or Arches, French made paper.
